This hoop wire is 10mm wide (slightly less than 1/2 inch). A typical Civil War cage crinoline will require about 30 meters.

NOTE: scissors will not cut this steel. You need tin snips and they work best if they have the letters CrM (yes, lower case r) molded into the jaws.

IMPORTANT - if you are planning to use this product with the connectors you may need to file some of the plastic coating off with a nail file, in order to get the connectors to fit. A new coating formulation has made this steel wider.

Product Details

This hoop steel is spring steel and it always wants to "spring" back to position. This is an important characteristic as it means you can walk through narrow doorways, sit in an arm chair...or car, and the hoops will not crush, bend or crack, they'll spring back into shape as soon as the applied pressure of the doorway or chair has been removed. The plastic coating means this hoop steel slides easily into a casing and is not inclined to rust. Check out the hoop connectors (above) designed to fit this steel. Use them to easily makes hoops. You can also use "U" tips to finish the cut end or plastic tips! If you want to you can use this as corset boning, just cut it to the lengths you need and cap the ends with "U" tips (you'll find them listed above).

Excellent steel!

I ordered two rolls to make my first ever covered crinoline for my wedding ensemble. This was also my first time working with this kind of steel. Cutting was difficult, but thankfully my fiancé was much more successful with his metal snips than I was.

Shipping was also fast, and the price was perfect for my budget. My crinoline is very comfortable, contort-able through narrow doorways, and a successful first attempt. If I ever need crinoline supplies again, I will definitely come here first! Thank you, Farthingales!

Magnificent!

Packaged well, easier than I expected to work with, and is exactly as advertised. I made a cage crinoline and it looks amazing! I look forward to ordering from here again. Tin snips did in fact work, I needed help a few times since I'm not very strong, but this discolored random pair I found in our garage worked :) I cannot speak highly enough of this product.
